The Woodland Hills church plant near Des Moines, Iowa recently sponsored a disaster survival seminar at the Altoona Public Library.
The class was taught by Jerry DuVall, pastor of the Nixa and Kimberling City churches in Missouri and a former Army counterintelligence agent. Attendees learned about assessing threats, being prepared for sudden disaster, and basic survival skills such as building an impromptu fire, making a temporary shelter, staying warm in extreme weather, packing for emergencies and more.
The seminar was a great opportunity to connect with community members in a neutral environment and learn more about what interests them. In addition to a survey on the registration form that will help us know how to best minister to their needs in the future, there were also several giveaways of survival tools and other items that could be used in a disaster.
The response was overwhelmingly positive. “So many people are clueless when it comes to being prepared for a natural disaster,” said one guest. “Thank you so much for doing this!”
Another guest shared that she and her husband had both brought laptops so they could take notes and compare information they’d gathered. They and several other guests expressed interest in an advanced survival course.
Several guests also expressed interest in Bible studies, prophecy seminars, Financial Peace University, and a CREATION Health series coming in January.
