During the month of May, three elementary teachers received the Commissioned Ministry of Teaching Credential during commissioning services held at their local churches.
The Commissioned Ministry of Teaching Credential is the highest recognition given to a church schoolteacher by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The ceremony is to give public recognition to a teacher who has had a commitment to and at least six years of experience in the Seventh-day Adventist education system, with demonstrated proficiency in assigned responsibilities. Such teachers will also exhibit a keen sense of Christian responsibility for nurturing and leading souls to Christ, for consistently upholding Christ as the focal point of all curriculum and instruction, and for demonstrating positive interpersonal relationships, thus providing an environment of social, spiritual and emotional stability.
The three teachers to be receive the credential this May were Kori Cook, Karli Kuehmichel and Gabriel Mendez.
Cook is the kindergarten, first and second grades teacher at the Hillcrest SDA School in St. Louis, Missouri. Cook has taught for nine years in the Adventist education system.
Kuehmichel is the principal and upper grade teacher at the Des Moines Adventist School. Kuehmichel has taught for 12 years in the Adventist education system.
Mendez is the fifth and sixth grades teacher at the College Park Christian Academy in Columbia, Missouri. Mendez has taught for 13 years in the Adventist education system.
A dedicatory prayer was given for each teacher with the laying on of hands by the church elders. Each teacher also received a certificate presented by Joseph R. Allison, Iowa-Missouri Conference Education Superintendent, to commemorate the commissioning.
