Pathfinder leaders from the Golden Valley, Moberly and Lee’s Summit churches recently partnered to offer a week-long day camp to children in Clinton, Missouri.
Using the Pathfinder honors curriculum, subjects taught included camping skills, archery, model rocketry, pinewood derby cars, tie dye, origami, and duct tape. Water-based games helped keep everyone cool through the blistering heat, and free vegetarian lunches introduced children to the health message in a relaxed atmosphere.
Each day’s morning devotion tied Scripture to the subjects being taught. For example, while learning camping skills kids also learned that “the angel of the Lord encamps around about those who fear him, and he delivers them” (Ps. 34:7).
On the final day, the kids had fun racing their derby cars while learning about Paul’s challenge for each of them to run in such a way as to win the prize (1 Cor. 9:24-27). Along with their physical prizes, the kids were given an invitation to future pathfinder events and meetings.
