The Waterloo church recently enjoyed a special music program focused on the rainbow God gave Noah in Genesis 9. In addition to being a sign that God would never again destroy the earth with a flood, the rainbow reminds us of God’s promise to save us through the birth, death and resurrection of His Son.
Each color is noteworthy:
- Red—the blood of Jesus, shed for us to share God’s love
- Orange—the color of the sun that glowed with brilliant light when Jesus rose from death to life
- Yellow—the color of the manager filled with straw where the newborn Jesus lay
- Green—the color of an ever-growing tree, symbolizing new life in Christ
- Blue—the color of water, living water, God’s precious Word
- Violet—the color of royalty, appropriate for our King
Is a rainbow present on a sunny day? No. It only appears after the thunder and lightning, when the rain subsides. So, too, in our walk with Christ we must often weather life’s storms before we see His greatest promises fulfilled.
Is there really a pot of gold at the end? Yes—in a way—because that pot of gold is symbolized in the riches we have in Jesus Christ! Because of God’s promise, the only worldwide flood we will ever see again is the flood of His grace and the riches of His kingdom bestowed upon us eternally!
