Members of the Cape Girardeau Church in Missouri are being hailed heroes by local authorities for their quick response to a serious motor vehicle accident that recently took place just outside the church during worship services.

Siv Nyanzi, a nurse practitioner, and Jake Reubel, a former police officer with first responder training, rushed out to offer assistance while other members prayed, and another called 911.

Ruebel checked on occupants and turned off both vehicles. Fearing an explosion, Nyanzi and another responder, a medical technician who happened to be driving behind one of the vehicles involved, helped both drivers out of their cars and stabilized injuries while Ruebel directed traffic until police and paramedics arrived.

Both vehicles were totaled, but thankfully no one was seriously injured.
