For over 20 years, Adventists from northeast Iowa have been coming together each August for a day of spiritual growth and fellowship.

The Northeast Iowa Backbone Rally, named after Backbone State Park, where it is held, was established by pastors more than 20 years ago to foster friendships between their local church members.

This year’s rally will be held Aug. 18 and will feature messages from Pastor Shelina Bonjour, youth ministries director for the Minnesota Conference, with music from the Pride family.

Pastor Bonjour uses out-of-the-box ways to share Jesus with the world, including role-playing as various Bible characters to help people relate to her messages. She will be presenting as Naomi during the rally.

The Pride family enjoys traveling and meeting new people as they touch hearts with their music. They have a range of music which includes hymns, southern gospel, contemporary worship, barbershop-style tunes, and original music. They use a variety of instruments including keyboard, guitar, banjo, auto harp, synthesizer, bass guitar, and bowed psaltery. They will be leading out in song services, giving special music during the services, and presenting a concert right after lunch.

Anyone who would like to come is invited! Backbone State Park is centrally located in northeastern Iowa (map), allowing those who want to just come for the day plenty of time to make the drive. There are also a variety of camping options for those who want to make a weekend trip out of it.
